Deanston Farm, Doune, Stirlingshire
Nestled in the rural landscape of Stirlingshire, this project involved the redevelopment of a traditional farmhouse into a modern, high-performance home. The brief was to deliver a contemporary metal roofing system that complemented the original stonework and rural setting, while remaining within the strict budget parameters of the Under 35K category.
Project Overview
Base Metal Roofing was appointed to deliver a full roofing and rainwater goods package using Greencoat PLX—selected for its durability, sustainability, and refined finish.
Client & Project Team
The project was commissioned by a private client and both designed and delivered by Mallet Construction. Base Metal Roofing worked with Greencoat PLX as the chosen metal manufacturer, with materials supplied by The Metal Roof Company. Completed in August 2024, the project was entered into the Under £35K category.
Scope of Work
The scope of work included standing seam metal roofing with precision detailing at the valley junctions, installation of a Lindab rainwater goods system, and full integration with the building’s original stone structure to ensure a seamless blend of traditional and contemporary elements.
Material and Specification
The roofing system features 0.6mm stainless steel panels installed using the standing seam method, with a CVT substrate and Isomat Pro Breather Membrane as underlay. The main roof is finished in Greencoat PLX Nordic Night Black, while the valley sections are highlighted in Metallic Dark Silver. This bold combination creates a striking visual balance, offering both contrast and cohesion across the roofscape.
Design Considerations
Blending modern standing seam metalwork into a rural, heritage context requires careful material selection and detail planning. A key design feature was the tonal pairing of dark roof panels with silver valley sections, creating a layered depth that complements the farmhouse’s traditional stone walls.
Budget sensitivity also shaped design decisions, ensuring premium aesthetics and performance were delivered efficiently and within cost parameters.
Outcomes
The finished result is a refined, modern roofscape that elevates the architectural presence of this rural home. The crisp standing seams, dark tones, and clean transitions reflect the craftsmanship and precision of the installation.
This project is a strong example of how considered design, quality materials, and skilled execution can transform traditional structures—even within modest budgets. Deanston Farm showcases Base Metal Roofing’s ability to deliver excellence under cost constraints without compromising visual impact or technical performance.
